Love Is The Tender Trap

‘You see a pair of laughing eyes. And suddenly your sighing sighs. You’re thinking nothing’s wrong. You string along, boy, then snap! Those eyes, those sighs, they’re part of the tender trap.’ - Frank Sinatra

Faces of Cairo: The Shisha Man
/ Portrait Photography
I was roaming around the Khan-El-Khalili market on a Sunday, and found this man smoking Shisha.  I could sense a potential of a photograph, so I took the opportunity.
Before this shot was taken, we exchanged a few words with the fixer’s help. Although there were times I tried to talk to him directly, he could not understand me. He shoved a bracelet in my hands and mumbled, “Allah, God”. After the shot was taken, he took it back with a smile, and continued to smoke his Shisha.

How I See The World

/ Experimental Photography

When I was young, I used to lay on the bed, put my head out to the edge of the bed and
look at the world upside down. I imagined myself walked across every room on the
ceilings, peruse the world next door from upwards rather than downwards.

Looking from the ceiling of the bedroom, the bed comes at you from a different angle, so does all the furniture in the room but you can still identify them.

Now what if we turn the whole world upside down? Manipulating things into things that we have never seen before? We get a new world. So is it still real? What sets the reality and the unreal apart?

Looking at the world from different perspectives and angles to a photographer can show a lot of things that one have never seen before and because we never did seen them quite that way before, they become magic. This is why I believe we should not only be inclined to only believe things we could see.
